Why is it important to address Scars?

Understanding Scar Tissue: Healing and Its Hidden Effects

Scar tissue forms as a natural part of the body's healing process. When the deeper layers of skin, known as the dermis, are injured, the body produces new collagen fibers to repair the damaged area. Imagine trying to mend a wool sweater: you patch up worn or missing spots with new yarn, reinforcing the weak areas. While the patched part may look different from the original sweater, it can still serve its purpose. Similarly, scar tissue is a sign that your body is healing, but unlike the sweater, your skin and tissue may not return to their original state.

While scars can take an emotional toll, there are also physical complications that may arise. On the surface, a scar may appear as a simple mark on the skin, but beneath the surface, it can cause adhesion between tissues and organs, or even lead to fibrosis.

How Scars Disrupt the Body’s Electrical Communication

Research has shown that when the skin’s epidermis is damaged—whether through burns, cuts, or even intentional marks like tattoos or piercings—the electrical properties of the skin are altered. Scar tissue obstructs the body’s electrical communication. This disruption affects the brain’s ability to send signals to the injured area, impeding the healing process. The autonomic nervous system, which controls crucial functions like digestion, respiration, and the body's overall healing response, can also be thrown out of balance due to this breakdown in electrical communication. This can have far-reaching effects on the body’s ability to heal itself effectively.

Scars and the Meridian System

In addition to affecting the body’s electrical signals, scars can also interfere with the meridian system—an interconnected network of energy pathways that runs throughout the body. Even a small scar, especially if located along the midline, can significantly impact the flow of energy along these channels. This disruption can have profound negative effects on the body’s overall health and healing capabilities.
